Public·50 Pigeon People!

Hello all!

I’m a 16 year old living in the uk and I love pigeons!

I rescued one who was hit by a van, he made a full recovery and is now (hopefully) living freely. I wanted to know, is there any way I can help to rescue local pigeons?

Hello Olive! Great to hear about the pigeon you rescued. I have been handfeeding orphaned baby birds since I was a child, and honestly the best way to help out is to get well known in your local community as everyone's go-to girl when a pigeon is in need. So many folks see an animal in distress and bring them in, put them in a box, with a bit of bread or cereal, and hope... If they know there's someone they can take it to with a bit of knowledge to improve it's chances of survival, they're going to take it!

I read the Amateur Naturalist by Gerald Durrell, too, which helped a lot, plus you've got us all here at P'sP.A to ask questions, and trust me, there's no such thing as a silly question. Watch out for ticks on disoriented pigeons (actually one of my very first cases was a fledgling collared dove with a tick who happily made a full recovery) There will be heartache, but it's worth it to know you've made a difference to a little life. Good luck Olive! Your flock is all around you 🐦
